Machine Made Cigars
Cigars are generally manufactured in one of two ways namely hand rolled or machine made, with hand rolled cigars traditionally being the cigar of choice for connoisseurs and machine made cigars being considered inferior and a tad pedestrian. This was mainly brought about by the fact that mechanisation made it possible to mass produce cigars at minimal cost and quality was left behind in order to make cigars affordable to the greater public. Although this might be the case with the majority of machine made cigar brands available world wide, some manufacturers have stepped up to the challenge and have started to combine the effectiveness of mechanisation with the high standards and quality tobacco blends normally associated with expensive hand rolled cigars.
One such company is ECMI cigars, being a thoroughly experienced and highly regarded manufacturer of machine made cigars, they have succeeded in combining the best of both worlds. Their two house brands namely Don Esteban and Price Wise are testament to that fact that premium quality cigars can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable price. Machine made cigars consist of the exact same parts as a hand rolled cigar.
The three parts being:
- The Filler: Can either consist of “long filler” or “short filler” depending on the length of leaves used. Machine made cigars are usually made with “short filler”.
- The Binder: This is the part of the cigar that envelopes the filler to effectively bunch all the filler leaves together.
- The Wrapper: The final part of the cigar assembly. The wrapper is wrapped around the binder and is the most visible and aesthetically significant part of the cigar. In addition to its structural importance it also contributes at least half of the cigar’s flavour.
